I’ve been a loyal Mac Duggal fan for years—ever since their trendy threads first caught my eye in the window of my local boutique.
But lately, it seems like every outfit I’ve picked up from them is missing that certain “je ne sais quoi” I’ve come to expect.
Don’t get me wrong, the quality is still there.
It’s just feeling a little played out, you know? I needed a change, but wasn’t ready to sacrifice style or construction.
That’s when I embarked on a journey to find other brands that could scratch that Mac Duggal itch.
And boy, did I hit the motherlode!
After hours of browsing online and stopping in tons of stores, I discovered over a dozen brands that are just as swanky as Mac Duggal but with their own unique flair.
These options have got everything from on-trend silhouettes to luxe fabrics at price points that won’t break the bank.
You don’t have to say goodbye to your tried-and-true faves—these brands are the perfect proxies when Mac Duggal leaves you wanting more:
Loft
Girl, if you think Loft is just for your prim and proper grandma, think again! Sure, they’ve got staples like tailored sheath dresses, button-downs and slacks that’ll look fly in any boardroom.
But lately they’ve been crankin’ out way more stylish duds that are perfect for happy hour or brunch with the girls.
Like their faux leather leggings—you’ve gotta cop a pair in black or brown cuz they’re so damn flattering. Pair ’em with one of their cute crop tops or knit sweaters and you’re ready to slay.
And heads up—now through next weekend they’ve got all sweaters, including their cozy oversized ones, for only 35 bucks. Score!
Don’t sleep on their jeans selection either. I don’t know how they do it, but Loft jeans always hug my curves in all the right places without feeling constricting. My faves are the Wedgie style—they hit right at the natural waist so you get that snatched look without muffin top.
And since they come in dark, light and distressed washes, it’s easy to mix and match lots of tops with one pair.
Oh and check out their pullover sweater dresses too! On chill fall days I just throw one on with boots or sneakers—no fuss, maximum style. The drapey knits and swingy silhouettes are so flattering.
The prices at Loft are seriously easy on the wallet as well. Most tops ring up around 50 bucks or less, which is pretty rad considering the quality.
I’ve had sweaters, blazers and dresses in my closet from there for years and they still look fresh after countless washes
Banana Republic
Aight Banana Republic definitely takes the #1 spot when it comes to investment pieces. Sure, some items may set you back a Benjamin or two.
But trust, the lush fabrics and tailored fits keep these separates in rotation for seasons to come.
Like, I scored this wool blend A-line skirt on sale last fall for 80 bucks and I swear it still looks brand new.
The muted berry color is totally timeless too—it goes with everything from crisp white blouses to chunky knits. I get compliments every time I rock it!
Their blazer selection is unreal too—all the varsity stripes, preppy plaids and classic cuts you could want. I always keep an eye out for the perfect oversized boyfriend blazer whenever I’m thrifting at BR.
Throw one on over a tee or cami and bam, you’re ready for happy hour cocktails or a fancy dinner date. They’re also great for layering under dusters or leather jackets when it starts to drizzle out. Quality stuff here keeps you lookin’ polished through any soiree.
And no lie, their sweaters are mega cozy too. cashmere? pshaw—BR knits are way more affordable and feel just as buttery soft on the skin. I dig their boatneck styles the most since they’re flattering on any bust size.
Pair one with slim trousers or a midi skirt and add ankle boots for a put-together look that’ll see you through countless fall Fridays in the office.
J.Crew
Alright girlie, it’s no secret J.Crew’s got some of the chicest workwear and off-duty essentials in the game. From tweedy blazers and tailored trousers to cozy tees and faded jeans, they really do it all.
I’m always stocking up there—their colors, patterns and silhouettes are just so stinkin’ versatile! Case in point—my favorite chinos.
They come in classic khaki, blue and grey shades so it’s easy to mix and match tons of tops and sweaters. Plus the slim fit is super flattering on all my curves.
And can we talk prints for a hot sec? Like my paisley blouse, ginghams skirts and polka dot jumpsuit are J.Crew faves for sure. Prints are such an easy way to spice up solids without looking too “try hard,” if you know what I mean.
Those eye-catching pieces always get me tons of compliments. Heck, even my grandma stops me every time I post an OOTD in something printed from J.Crew! The colours, cuts and fabrics are just so dang well made.
Oh and don’t sleep on their dresses either, babes—if you’re headed to brunch, a holiday party or just want a cute WFH number, J.Crew’s got you covered. Swingy silhouettes and feminine patterns keep things flirty without feeling too revealing.
