I’ve got a juicy post for you today about some rad brands that will help you catch waves in style, just like Quiksilver.
Now I don’t need to tell you that Quiksilver is one of the OG surf brands.
Their boardshorts and t-shirts have been staples in surf culture since Alan Green and John Law founded the company in Australia in 1969.
I still have some of my dad’s vintage 80s Quiksilver logo tees that I love to rock at the beach.
But maybe you want to mix up your look or find some new brands to rep in the lineup.
Well don’t worry, I’ve got you covered like zinc oxide on a nose with this roundup of 17 similar brands!
Billabong
When it comes to surf style, Billabong is definitely in the same league as Quiksilver.
Founded in 1973 in Australia by Gordon Merchant, Billabong’s beachy prints and laidback vibes are perfect for the waves.
One of my favorite things about Billabong is they have sizes from junior’s to plus, so people of all ages can rep their boardshorts and bikinis.
I especially love their walkshorts with unique prints like Water Trippy Plaid and Floral Galapagos.
And their boardshorts come in so many colors and patterns to choose from, like the Pins Punch 15 inch boardies in pink pineapple print.
Bonus that Billabong uses recycled materials like Repreve polyester made from recycled plastic bottles. Just like Quiksilver, they definitely have that surf bum, live-for-the-weekend vibe down!
Rip Curl
Rip Curl is another Aussie brand that’s equal parts high performance surfwear and coastal cool.
They make serious wetsuits and surf gear for riding big waves, but also have that fun, youthful edge that Quiksilver is known for.
From cute fixed triangle bikini tops to warm E-Bomb zipless wetsuits, your entire surf kit is covered with Rip Curl!
I’m currently crushing on their Dawn Patrol 4/3 Chest Zip wetsuit in mint marine – it’s the perfect splash of color while keeping me warm in the winter swells.
And their Balin One Piece swimsuit is a cool retro notch back style with criss cross straps. Whether you’re hitting up mushburgers in Costa Rica or bombing Pipeline, Rip Curl has you outfitted.
Roxy
Roxy was actually founded by Quiksilver founder Alan Green in 1990 as a women’s offshoot brand. So the DNA is very similar – surf-inspired fashion you can wear from the waves to the sidewalk.
Roxy has that girly, beach goddess vibe perfect for chilling after a session.
I’m obsessed with their swimwear – the Hawaiian Floral Boho Fixed Tri bikini is so cute with a retro 70s print, and the Epic Lux Walk Shorts are comfy linen shorts with a drawstring waist you can wear to the boardwalk.
And of course, Roxy has all the rashguards, boardshorts, hoodies, dresses and other goodies to keep you styled at the beach!
Volcom
Volcom brings a skate-meets-surf aesthetic with edgier styles compared to Quiksilver’s beach vibes.
It was actually started in 1991 by two snowboarders, Richard Woolcott and Tucker Hall, so Volcom definitely reps that outdoor action sports culture.
I’d rock their tomboy stone t-shirts and hoodies for apres surf! The Volcom Frickin Modern Stretch Boardshort is a cool longer fit with a modern Hawaiian print.
And their yoga pants and leggings are great for warming up before paddling out. Volcom makes you look put together while still being laidback.
RVCA
RVCA has that cool, understated vibe down with their minimalist logo tees and hoodies. It’s surf style for laidback rebels who don’t want loud prints.
RVCA was started by Mark Daniels, the former executive behind JNCO Jeans, so you know they have their finger on the pulse of youth culture.
Bonus that they have sustainable initiatives like using recycled polyester to keep the oceans clean while we play in them! I love their Sport Flex One Piece swimsuit in black for a sleek look, and the VA Sport Hat has a curved brim and their signature RVCA patch.
Subtle but stylish!
Hurley
Hurley is Nike’s surf and skate brand started by Bob Hurley in 1999. Hurley mixes high performance watersports apparel with beach ready basics.
I dig their sexy one piece swimsuits with cool strappy details and cutouts, like the Ultimate Foundations Scoop Neck swimsuit.
And their Boardshorts use quick-drying Phantom fabric designed specifically for surfing. The Block Party 18″ Boardshorts in navy blue look sharp but still let me shred!
O’Neill
Founded way back in 1952 in San Francisco by Jack O’Neill, O’Neill is California heritage surf.
Jack pioneered the first neoprene wetsuits, evolving surfing from only a warm weather pastime into an all-season sport.
Their Hyperfreak and Highline wetsuits are top notch for warming those bones in colder swells! O’Neill also has the hottest new HyperFreak Flex 3/2 Chest Zip – it’s ultra warm 5/4 suit thickness but with insane flexibility.
And they have all the rashguards, boardshorts, bikinis and other goodies to keep you covered in style. The Epic II Astro Bikini is a cute retro star print, and I love their long sleeve rashguards.
Reef
Founded in 1984 in San Diego, Reef makes some of my favorite flip flops, sandals and slides for post-surf chilling and strolling the beach.
Their Fanning sandal has soft bottle opener straps inspired by pro surfer Mick Fanning. And they have a new Escape Lux collection that’s like sneaker comfort meets beach vibes.
Reef also has chill t-shirts, tanks and hoodies with sunset gradient washes that work for warm summer nights. The Escape Rashguard is a cute cropped length UPF top that protects my shoulders from the sun.
Tommy Bahama
While Tommy Bahama has a more retro Hawaiian shirt vibe, they definitely carry surf-inspired prints, shorts and swimwear with a relaxed tropical feel.
One of my dad’s fave brands! Their Swim Club line has fun mix and match bikini separates like the Pearl Shirred Underwire Bikini Top and Bali Hipster Bikini Bottom.
And they have comfy Paridise Chillin’ Shorts covered in tropical cocktails and pineapples. Tommy Bahama is perfect for a post-surf beach party!
Onia
Onia brings that jetset, Miami Beach energy with their swimwear and resort lifestyle apparel. Lots of neutral solids, perfect for that minimalist quality over loud prints.
I especially love their belted swim dresses and caftans for throwing over your suit – the Millie Cover Up Maxi Dress can take you straight from surf session to cocktail hour! And their swim is designed for real women’s bodies.
The Lennox One Piece is a timeless silhouette with adjustable straps. Great for travel!
Banks Journal
This Aussie brand founded in 2009 has an urban edge to their surf gear, with military and workwear influences.
Think edgy graphic t-shirts, weathered trucker hats, and shorts in khaki and olive hues. I especially dig their Board Tribe Coach’s Jacket – it’s a vintage-inspired nylon windbreaker that’s water-resistant.
And the Walkshorts Workwear Shorts have useful cargo pockets. Banks Journal has that cool street vibe while still being surf tough.
Pistol Surf Co.
Pistol has a retro 80s and 90s surf vibe that’s super unique. Their neon printed t-shirts and sherpa jackets are radical.
The Sunset Sherpa has rainbow sunset vibes, while the Neon Dreamin’ Tee mixes retro fonts and colors for that 80s acid wash look. It’s like the badass surf style from Point Break. I can practically hear Sublime playing while eyeing their stuff. Cowabunga, dudes!
Prana
Prana makes performance activewear for all types of watersports. Think durable swimwear, UPF sun shirts, and other technical gear to get you out on the ocean feeling protected. The Bridget Bikini Top has ruching at the bust and UPF 50+ protection.
And I love their Chakara Capri Leggings – they’re stretchy and comfy right out of the surf to hit the yoga studio in. Prana is perfect if you’re big on watersports like paddleboarding, kayaking, and kitesurfing too!
Patagonia
You can’t think surf without thinking Patagonia. Founded by Yvon Chouinard in 1973, their gear is built tough for the longtime outdoor enthusiast. Their boardshorts like the Men’s Stretch Planing are made from sturdy 8.7-ounce recycled polyester.
I like the Women’s Simple Synchilla Snap-T Pullover – it’s the perfect cozy fleece to throw on for fireside hangs after surfing all day, made from recycled materials. And their bikinis, rashguards and wetsuits are all made ethically and sustainably. Patagonia focuses on quality over quantity!
Vissla
Vissla is all about chasing that endless summer with their surfboards, wetsuits and stylish watersports apparel.
This Aussie brand definitely vibes coastal cool with their mostly natural earth tone color palette. Lots of their apparel features retro 70s-esque floral prints and breezy linen for that nostalgic
California feel. I’d wear their Paloma Jumpsuit to go from surfing to errands – it’s chic and versatile with a zip front and cinched waist. Vissla wants you to embrace your inner beach bum!
Magicseaweed
This is actually a surf forecasting site started in 2002, but they have an awesome apparel line too. Graphic t-shirts, hoodies, boardshorts and towels with their signature wave designs and colors.
The Proc Fish Tee has a cool digital print of a leaping fish. And their Waveface Hoody is plush fleece inside with a stylin’ wave graphic. For staying steezy while predicting the best breaks!
The Critical Slide Society
The Critical Slide Society is a newer small brand founded by pro skateboarder Dale Chapman that brings punk rock vibes to surf culture.
Their clothes feature edgy graphics like the Negative Waves Tee with cosmic visuals. And the Corpse Grinder Wetsuit is perfect for headbanging in the pit after shredding waves. For hardcore surfers who don’t take themselves too seriously!
Thunderbolt
Based in California, Thunderbolt makes simple retro surf staples rebuilt to last generations, like their handcrafted wood surfboards.
Their t-shirts, hoodies and hats have a vintage 60s and 70s aesthetic. The Mariner Tee has a worn-in feel with nautical rope graphics. I’d wear it with high-waisted thrifted Levi’s for that old school beach babe vibe.
Matuse
This California brand pioneers high-tech wetsuits and watersports gear for surfers, divers, paddleboarders and more aquatic adventures.
Using proprietary neoprene, their suits allow a full range of motion while keeping you insulated and buoyant. The Geoprene X Rashguard has UPF 50 protection while being 100% flexible. And their Geoprene Liber-T Hoodie has built in neoprene for extra warmth. Matuse keeps water warriors stylish and safe!
Faherty Brand
Launched in 2012, Faherty takes a quality over quantity approach to surf lifestyle clothing. Their apparel has a rugged, timeless aesthetic with lots of navy, olive and khaki tones.
I especially love their flannels and knit pullovers that seamlessly go from bonfires to the barrel. And their swim has a retro vibe, like the Siren One Piece with a low scoop back and high cut leg. Faherty is feel good surf vibes made to last!

Known for their stylish socks, Stance also makes awesome surf apparel like boardshorts, hoodies, and t-shirts.
I especially love their women’s swimwear featuring cool scrunch details, cutouts and hardware accents, like the Caught Inside Reversible Tie Side Bikini Bottom. And their men’s Legacy 21” Boardshorts have a retro surf vibe. Stance brings that SoCal creative culture to the lineup!
Buell Wetsuits
This small women-owned brand handmakes high-performance neoprene wetsuits from their workshop in California.
Their suits are designed specifically for a woman’s curves for the best fit and freedom of motion. The Spark 2mm Fullsuit has glow-in-the-dark silicone rail stripes – how cool is that?! Plus it’s partially recycled and Bluesign certified. Buell empowers women in the surf and sustainability.

This North Carolina brand uses sustainable American sourced merino wool to make kickass socks and apparel.
Their Crew Surf Sock is cushy with a seamless toe – no more aching feet from being in booties! And their tolerance tees and pullovers are odor resistant and moisture wicking for apres surf. Farm to Feet keeps you cozy sustainably.
