I gotta admit, ever since I bought my first pair of True Religions back in high school, I was hooked.
Those jeans just fit so darn good and made my booty look fiiiine.
But after years of faithfully rocking TRs, I realized two things:
1) My bank account could use a break from dropping hundos on designer denim,
and 2) There’s tons of other great jeans out there!
So I’ve made it my mission to hunt down quality jeans that channel that iconic True Religion look and feel, without the mega price tag.
After lots of trial and error (and sending back some dud styles), I found 10+ slammin’ alternatives that I think you’ll love just as much as True Religion:
Joe’s Jeans
My first stop in the search for TR dupes was Joe’s Jeans. These babies check all the boxes: premium denim, stellar fit, and classically stylish washes.
I especially dig the vintage and cigarette leg styles. While not cheap, they retail for about half the price of True Religions.
One of my fave pairs are the Joe’s Charlie High Rise Cigarette jeans – they hit right at my ankle bone and are so comfy for everyday wear.
The fabric is super soft with the perfect amount of stretch. I also love the Tomboy girlfriend style for a slouchier, vintage vibe.
The light destroy and faded black washes give them a perfectly broken-in look right off the rack. And the Antonia skinny is a classic go-to – sleek and slimming in a versatile dark indigo.
Joe’s uses premium fabrics, including modal and lyocell for unbeatable softness. Overall, killer quality without the shocking sticker price!
Topshop Joni Jeans
Across the pond in the UK, Topshop has been killing the denim game for years. Their popular Joni style offers that ultra slim leg and contouring stretch fabric at an affordable price point.
I especially love the pale blue and grey washes. The fabric is super smooth and tight to the leg without feeling restrictive. They’re made of a cotton/poly/elastane blend that moves with your body.
The bruised black ripped Jonis are a fave – perfect for a grunge-glam vibe. And the Joni in washed black is an easy everyday style. It’s flattering and versatile without trying too hard.
Topshop tends to run on the small side, so I’d recommend sizing up for a true skinny fit. At around $60-$80, you can snag a few of these babies without draining your bank account!
Articles of Society
If you’re looking for True Religion vibes on a budget, Articles of Society is a great option. This LA-based brand makes stretchy, super soft jeans that mold to your curves and don’t lose their shape.
I can’t get over how comfy they are! The Sophia skinny jean is my number one pick – I’m obsessed with the vintage medium wash and the fabric feels like sweats. Even after a full day of wear, they keep their structure and don’t get saggy.
The Avery high waisted skinny is another win, especially in the stone grey wash – very flattering and versatile.
At under $50 a pop, you can load up on these quality stretch denim steals. Articles of Society uses sustainable Tencel fibers blended with cotton and spandex for the perfect soft stretch.
7 For All Mankind
While on the pricier side, 7 For All Mankind jeans have that luxe, closet staple feel that TRs are known for.
I’m currently obsessing over their slim fit Gwenevere style – it makes my legs look a mile long! This high rise skinny hugs your curves without losing its shape, even after multiple wears.
The inky dark Graceful Ghost wash is super rich and saturated. 7FAM tends to run big, so size down if you’re between sizes.
The black Sante Fe skinny is another stellar style with the perfect dose of stretch and a sleek second-skin fit. Made from a cotton/poly/spandex blend, these jeans keep their structure while moving with your body. Expect to pay $150-$200 for these designer denim beauties.
Hudson Jeans
Hudson Jeans offer an awesome selection of washes, from dark indigo to light and bright. I especially love their signature flap back pocket for adding that designer flare.
Major bonus: they’re made right here in the USA! The Blake slim bootcut is a great alternative to skinny jeans – it has that narrow, tapered leg opening but gives you a bit more room in the thigh.
I love the light wash options – they have a perfectly worn-in vibe even when brand new.
For a sexier skinny fit, the Nico Midrise Super Skinny is ideal. It has great stretch recovery that sculpts your legs and lifts your butt.
Hudson uses high quality stretch fabrics like Power Mesh cotton/poly/spandex blends. The $100-$175 price tag is fair for the quality.
Lucky Brand
For seriously comfy, lived-in vintage style denim, Lucky Brand is a go-to. Their stretch skinny and slim jeans move with you and come in a range of rich, unique washes.
The Lolita skinny is probably my favorite style – it has the perfect dose of slouch and looks stylishly broken in right off the rack. I’m obsessed with the Sherbert Fade, which features a light pinkish wash.
Lucky Brand is known for using real vintage fabrics, which gives their jeans that authentic worn look.
The Sofia high rise skinny is another winner that sculpts your lower half while feeling like your fave sweats. At around $100, you get premium denim minus the really steep price tag.
Levi’s
You can’t talk jeans without mentioning the OG – Levi’s! The classic 501 and skinny styles are wardrobe staples. And with 100+ years perfecting their denim game, Levi’s has the fit, quality, and style on lock.
Obviously the vintage 501s are iconic, but for a similar skinny fit to True Religions, check out the 721 High Rise Skinny. This style is ultra smooth and tight-fitting, with next level stretch fabric.
I’m crushing hard on the crisp, bright white shade – it makes your tan pop in the summer! For the perfect everyday skinny, the Wedgie Fit style can’t be beat.
It has that old school high waisted look with a leg-lengthening slim leg. At around $40-$100, Levi’s offers awesome quality and style at mass market prices.
AE Jeans
Don’t sleep on American Eagle for stellar affordable denim. Their new baggy mom jeans are so on-trend. But for a True Religion inspired look, check out their Next Level and Hi-Rise Jegging lines.
The Stretch Jegging comes in regular, extra stretch, and super soft fabrics to fit any body. I’m obsessed with the sky grey color – it gives that stylish monochrome vibe.
And the black Extra Stretch Jegging is perfect for date nights – dressy and sexy. The fabrics move with you and keep their stretch all day long at an unbeatable price. AE jeans typically retail between $40-$60 so you can stock up without breaking the bank!
Topman Jeans
Topman kills the menswear game across the board, and their jeans are no exception. For TR vibes, I dig the spray-on skinny fit.
They’re made from hyper-stretch denim for a sculpted look that moves with you. The Stretch Skinny Jeans in slate grey have eye-catching sheen while fitting like a glove. And for the ultimate black jeans, try the Black Stretch Skinny style – it has the perfect amount of stretch for superior comfort.
Topman tends to run slim, so size up one for a mega tight fit. Bonus: Topman offers free hemming when you buy in store, so you get that perfect ankle-grazing length every time. At around $80 per pair, you get stellar style and fit at a fair cost.
Rag & Bone
Rag & Bone is my new designer denim obsession. Their jeans offer a luxe, perfectly tailored fit without screaming flashy designer labels.
I especially dig their coated styles – so edgy and cool! The Legging Jean in black coated is the ultimate sexy skinny – liquid looking with a hint of sheen. And the fit is beyond – it lifts and sculpts just right. For a cool weather-friendly black jean, try the Standard Issue style.
It has a slick coated finish in a 5 pocket skinny cut. At $200-$350 per pair, Rag & Bone isn’t cheap but I think the stellar quality and fit is worth the investment. They use high tech fabrics with at least 2% elastane for the perfect stretch.
Citizens of Humanity
If you love True Religion’s signature contoured fit, Citizens of Humanity are a pricier but quality option. Their Rocket and Emanuelle skinny jeans are rich in stretch and sculpt to perfection.
The Rocket skinny jeans are made of soft cotton with poly and lycra for stretch and shape retention. I’m currently loving the Marissa wash – it has the perfect amount of whiskering and fading on rich indigo denim.
Citizens of Humanity tends to run pricey, from $160-$250 per pair. But you get superior fabrics – mostly cotton with around 2% elastane for stretch – with expert washes.
DL1961
New York based DL1961 uses next-level XFIT LYCRA technology to create the stretchiest, comfiest jeans ever.
I’m literally obsessed with their Instasculpt jeans – they lift and contour my booty better than TRs! The Emma instasculpt skinny style in clean dark wash is my fave – it fits like a dang glove. DL1961 incorporates performance fabrics like XFIT LYCRA that move and stretch with your body.
And their Sculpting Stretch Denim is brilliant – it molds to your shape and bounces back seamlessly. Expect to spend $150-$250, but the innovative fabrics and perfect stretch are worth it.
Frame
For that perfect model-off-duty vibe, Frame denim is killer. Their Le Skinny de Jeanne style gives legs for days.
And their innovative fabric recovery stretches without sagging. This iconic style comes in a range of gorgeous washes to suit any vibe. I’m crushing on the Oberlin style – it has that perfectly destroyed, well-loved look in a slim tapered leg.
The Forever Black Le High Skinny is a wardrobe essential with Frame’s smoothing, sculpting stretch fabric. Expect to drop $200-$250 for these designer jeans. But Frame uses luxe Supima cotton with lyocell and elastane for an unbeatable fit.
MOTHER
MOTHER jeans may have a funny name, but they ain’t no joke! This LA brand uses the stretchiest Italian denim that moves with you.
The Runaway skinny is my top pick for TR devotees. It has the ultimate soft stretch thanks to MOTHER’s Stay Black® technology. This deep, inky black wash is rich and saturated. And it keeps its color without fading – total score! The High Waisted Looker ankle fray jean is another hot style.
It has that trendy released hem with a skinny tapered leg. At $150-$230 per pair, MOTHER jeans deliver quality and innovation. From Soft Stretch denim to shaping Stay Black® washes, their fabrics wow.
Agolde
If you dig True Religion’s signature faded and whiskered washes, Agolde delivers big time. They look pricier than they are and leverage premium Italian and Japanese fabrics.
The Criss Cross Upsize jean nails that perfectly broken-in vibe. It features strategically placed shreds and fades on pristine denim, with wider legs for a modern twist. And the Riley high rise skinny is an ultra flattering everyday staple.
Made with TENCELTM Lyocell, this fabric is silky soft and shapes to the body beautifully. Agolde jeans fall in the $150-$200 sweet spot – not dirt cheap but not astronomical for the quality.
Madewell
Madewell’s skinny jeans boast rich color, flawless stretch recovery, and a curve-loving tapered cut. The Roadtripper and Cali Demi Boot styles are affordable wardrobe heroes.
The Cruiser Straight Crop jeans are my latest obsession – they have that slouchy boyfriend vibe with a flattering cropped hem. I love the light destruction paired with Madewell’s custom Magic Stretch fabric.
And the Curvy High Rise Skinny is brilliant if you’ve got curves to flaunt – the fabric smooths and shapes hips and thighs. At just $115-$135 per pair, Madewell hits the sweet spot between quality and pricepoint. Their jeans use cotton/poly/elastane blends for premium stretch.
Everlane
For ethically made basics done right, Everlane is unbeatable. Their vintage-inspired skinny jeans use Japanese stretch denim for that perfect lived-in look and feel.
The ’90s Cheeky Straight style gives off retro mom jean vibes in a skinny fit. Its high waist is super flattering and I love the light wash options.
And the Way-High Jean nails that sky-high supermodel length in an ultra skinny silhouette. Everlane jeans typically retail for $68-$98, which is awesome for premium Japan-sourced denim. They incorporate lyocell for softness plus elastane for top notch stretch.
J Brand
J Brand is another premium denim brand that I’ve fallen in love with for their flawless fit and innovative fabrics. Their skinny and straight leg styles have that quintessential True Religion look, hugging your curves in all the right places.
One of my fave J Brand styles is the Maria High Rise Skinny. This iconic jean has the perfect high rise to snatch your waist, along with that sculpting stretch fabric. I’m obsessed with the polished black shade – it’s super slimming and sexy for day or night.

Los Angeles based brand Paige Denim is renowned for their luxe fabrics with the perfect dose of stretch. I’m obsessed with their ultra skinny Transcend fabric that sculpts your legs for miles.
The Hoxton High Rise Ultra Skinny jean is brilliant – made from Paige’s supple Transcend fabric, it feels like a second skin. I’m crushing on the blackout wash, which is saturated jet black for the ultimate slimming effect.

One of their top styles is the Alexa Secret Fit – made from super soft fabric with tons of stretch, it sculpts your legs flawlessly. I’m loving the crisp bright white shade for summer. And the Serena Push Up skinny is ideal for showing off curves, thanks to its lifting fabric and strategically placed fading.
Mavi uses high-tech finishes and fabrics like their Push Up Technology and Secret Fit Denim. Expect to spend just $79-$119 per pair – a steal compared to premium designer denim. The stellar fits and fabric innovation make Mavi an awesome True Religion dupe option.
