I had my sights set on a cute Beis backpack to lug around my heavy textbooks in style. But that $98 price tag?

My ramen noodle budget just couldn’t swing it. Cue the sad trombone.

After testing out tons of brands, I realized you don’t have to pay a premium to get quality, stylish pieces for everyday life.

In fact, there are so many Beis doppelgangers out there that nail the minimalist-chic vibe without the shocking price tag.

Intrigued?

Madewell

Brands Similar to Beis

Known for their laidback, vintage-inspired styles, Madewell is a great option if you like Beis’ casual relax vibe.

Their canvas and leather totes channel that effortless look, often at lower prices than Beis. I’m obsessed with their Transport Leather Tote that comes in so many dreamy colors like English Saddle and True Black.

At $168, it’s $30 cheaper than the Beis Work Tote while still being made from super soft, premium leather.

Madewell’s zip top crossbody bags are also a steal – the Camera Bag goes for just $88 in durable canvas. Compared to Beis’ Catch-All Zip Top Pouch at $98, you can save big while still getting that cool girl aesthetic.

Matt & Nat

This vegan accessory brand offers sleek, minimalist bags and wallets similar to Beis. The prices are mid-range but they often have good sales that make items more wallet-friendly.

One of my personal faves is the Orbit Backpack for $115, marked down from $145. It has the same sleek shape and multiple interior pockets as Beis’ Day Backpack, but in cruelty-free faux leather.

I can fit my 13″ laptop, notebook, water bottle and more with room to spare.

Matt & Nat’s wallets are also perfect dupes for Beis styles – the Dexter Wallet looks nearly identical to Beis’ Card Wallet but is only $35 versus $48. And it comes in way more color options like pastel pink and olive green.

Portland Leather

Specializing in fine leather goods, Portland Leather has a collection of quality backpacks, briefcases and duffels that mimic Beis’ refined aesthetic.

The prices are fair for real leather items. The Day Trip Backpack for $228 nails the minimalist, gender-neutral vibe of Beis’ styles. It fits a 15″ laptop in a padded sleeve and has an exterior pocket for quick-grab items like your phone.

The full-grain leather develops a unique patina over time. And the Lifetime Guarantee ensures it’ll last for years as an everyday essential.

If you’re looking for a sleek work bag, the $278 Executive Brief will be your new go-to. The full leather construction oozes sophistication while still being modern and functional.

Dagne Dover

With their focus on function meets style, Dagne Dover is ideal for the girl on-the-go looking for chic, practical pieces.

Their neoprene and nylon bags offer a sporty durability reminiscent of Beis. The Dakota Backpack is a standout for its Apple-laptop friendly size, feminine silhouette and material innovation. At $155, it’s made of water-resistant neoprene with an air mesh back panel to keep you cool.

The interior pockets and compartments are perfect for keeping daily essentials organized. For a more polished look, the Allyn Tote in pebbled leather retails for $365. Sleek top handles and an optional crossbody strap make this roomy tote ideal for work or travel. It fits up to a 17” laptop!

Herschel

Known for their classic backpacks, Herschel Supply Co. has an array of accessories with the same casual styling as Beis.

Their pieces are affordably priced but don’t skimp on quality materials. The Retreat Backpack is available in canvas, leather or nylon starting at just $54.95. It comes in simple two-tone color combos that will complement any outfit.

I also recommend Herschel’s Settlement Bucket Bag for $59.99 – it packs the laidback vintage cool of a Beis bag but at nearly half the price point.

Or check out the hip Nova Mid-Volume Sling Bag in leather for $79.99. With both crossbody and shoulder carry options, it’s perfect for exploring cities or going hands-free on hikes.

MONO

This Canadian brand creates timeless vegan leather and canvas bags.

With their commitment to ethics and sustainability, MONO is perfect for the conscious consumer who loves Beis’ approach.

The Classic Backpack for $99 nails the pared-back styling with its single compartment design, front zip pocket and matte finish.

MONO keeps things modern with leather alternative materials, recycled plastic lining and antimicrobial properties. I’d pair it with their Essentials Pouch in canvas for only $20. The two-tone color combos are so stylish.

Baggu

Offering fun, fashionable recyclable bag options, Baggu has the playful prints and minimalist shapes that Beis customers love.

Bonus – their prices are super budget-friendly! The Duck Bag is a quirky crossbody that comes in mad cute patterns like polka dots and colorful stripes.

And it’s only $34! The compact Standard Baggu Packable Bag folds up when not in use but can carry up to 50 pounds when needed. It channels that packable pragmatic vibe of Beis for just $12.

State Bags

With each purchase, State donates a fully-stocked backpack to a child in need. So you can channel those Beis vibes while giving back.

Their classic canvas and leather styles start around $50. The City Backpack is understatedly cool with its slim silhouette and zip flap opening.

The mini version retails for $55 in both canvas and vegan leather. State Bags’ accessories are also super affordable like the $35 Metro Messenger Bag or $45 Lorimer Tote. The two-tone color combos offer a pop of personality.

Frank and Oak

This eco-conscious lifestyle brand offers urban casualwear and accessories with Scandinavian sensibilities akin to Beis.

Prices are mid-tier but they frequently have big sales and promos. Their Station Backpack made from recycled nylon will set you back just $49.50 right now, marked down from $98. It’s modern and practical with a padded laptop sleeve, front zip pocket and side water bottle holder.

Frank and Oak’s Garment Weekender Bag screams quality while keeping things minimalist and sophisticated. The full-grain leather will develop a unique patina over time just like Beis’ leather bags.

Timbuk2

The OG messenger bag brand, Timbuk2 provides functional bags with a stylish edge. If you like Beis but need something rugged, Timbuk2’s got you covered.

The Authority Pack Deluxe is a workhorse that fits large laptops and books while distributing weight evenly. At $149, it’s a worthwhile splurge for active professionals, creatives and students. The coated material and waterproof lining keep your gear safe from elements.

For something smaller, the Alias Sling Bag offers quick front access to essentials during commutes or travel. It starts at $69 for the basic nylon version.

Fjallraven

Loved for their outdoor gear, Fjallraven also makes timeless, durable bags perfect for everyday use. Their Kanken backpack is a classic similar to Beis’ styles.

The regular Kanken is only $80 and comes in fun two-tone color combos. It’s straight-up Swedish minimalism with the simple boxy shape and clean lines.

If you need something bigger, go for the Kanken Laptop 15″ version for $109.95. It has a padded sleeve for protecting your computer on the go. Fjallraven’s Re-Kanken Mini Backpack is also a cute pint-sized option at $55.

Topo Designs

With retro mountaineering inspirations, Topo Designs is ideal for the outdoorsy Beis fan. Their durable bags look stylish hitting the trails or walking city streets.

The Daypack costs $79 for the basic version, with leather trim upgrades available too. It’s got an old school look but modern interior pockets to keep you organized.

Topo’s Mini Quick Pack is another winner – the 12L capacity and covered main compartment make it great for hiking, travel and daily use. Bonus that it’s priced under $100.

Everlane

Known for their clean, minimalist aesthetic, Everlane creates functionally chic bags and accessories like Beis.

Their prices are low for the quality and transparency you get. Take the Modern Snap Backpack made of premium leather for only $248. It has a sleek, gender-neutral design with comfortable straps and a laptop sleeve.

I’m also a fan of Everlane’s Modern Utility Crossbody Bag. At $98 it’s a bargain for the buttery leather and versatile zip shape. It comes in neutrals like Bone and Black that pair perfectly with Beis-inspired outfits.

Cuyana

Cuyana is an up-and-coming sustainable fashion brand that embodies elegant minimalism reminiscent of Beis.

Their collection of bags and accessories eschew trends in favor of timeless, functional designs. The Le Sud Leather Tote is a roomy everyday bag made from soft, full-grain Italian leather. At $248, it’s pricier than Beis but uses high-quality materials and craftsmanship.

The structured silhouette features long shoulder straps, a magnetic snap closure and interior pocket for organization. It comes in versatile neutrals like Black, Driftwood and Cypress Green. For a smaller crossbody, check out the Le Sud Camera Case for $198.

It fits just the essentials with its slim secure exterior pocket and suede lined interior. Cuyana’s 100% silk scarves are also perfect lightweight Beis alternatives. The Lightweight Scarf is $115 and comes in both solid hues and painterly prints to accent your look.

Arsenal

This NYC-based brand specializes in handcrafted leather bags and accessories with an architectural aesthetic.

Arsenal’s designs are unfussy yet striking – much like Beis’ approach to fashion. The Daily Commute Messenger Bag nails understated cool for $298. Made from full grain leather, it features a flap closure, adjustable strap and multiple interior pockets.

Streamlined gold hardware and contrast topstitching elevate the minimalist silhouette. Arsenal’s Zip Wallet also mimics the pared back functionality of Beis’ styles. It’s priced at $158 and crafted from soft, supple leather in versatile shades like black, tan and merlot.

The wallet is deceivingly slim but fits all your cards, cash and coins thanks to carefully designed compartments. For a roomier carryall, check out the Weekender Overnight Bag for $498. The duffle silhouette and leather/canvas construction make it ideal for quick trips and weekends away.

Clare V.

This LA-based brand offers casual-chic accessories marked by playful patterns and colors. While the aesthetic differs from Beis’ subdued palette, Clare V. nails functionality and affordability. The Simple Tote is designed in durable cotton canvas with contrasting leather handles.

At $195, it’s budget-friendly for a designer carryall. The unique patterns range from colorful stripes to quirky illustrations so you can add some personality. For a more professional look, consider their Leather Tote for $395.

It’s crafted in supple full-grain leather with a removable zip pouch for organization. Effortless details like the small logo charm and contrasting suede interior speak to Clare V.’s attention to quality.

If you prefer crossbody bags, check out the Compact Jacquard Mini Bag for just $145. The canvas strap and vibrant combo patterns channel French girl chic perfect for weekends in the city.

Tumi

Known for innovative travel pieces, Tumi also offers premium everyday bags and accessories with a utilitarian edge similar to Beis.

The Alpha Bravo Navigation Backpack proves function can still be stylish. This lightweight pack features a laptop sleeve, tablet pocket, integrated USB port and even a ticketing pocket. At $375, it’s an investment but worth it for frequent fliers and commuters. Tumi’s Devoe Meadow Small Crossbody Bag also nails understated sophistication.

Available in colors like black, navy and rose, it features zip entry to the main compartment and multiple interior pockets. The leather and nylon design is modern yet pragmatic for only $195. And Tumi’s card cases like the Shelby Soft Tri-Fold Wallet make chic substitutions for Beis’ styles. The pebbled leather and muted colorways embody quiet luxury.

Hammitt

This LA-based brand offers reasonably priced bags focused on quality craftsmanship and materials. Their minimalist styles and utilitarian vibe echo Beis’ aesthetic. The VIP Backpack is a sleek leather backpack available in either full-grain or Saffiano leather.

At $295-$495 based on the leather type, it’s very affordable for the design details. The streamlined silhouette features padded shoulder straps, a laptop pocket and zip entry to the spacious main compartment.

Hammitt’s Fulton Crossbody Bag also channels Scandinavian inspiration akin to Beis. Made of Saffiano or pebbled leather for $275-$375, it transitions seamlessly from day to night.

The versatile zip top shape and slim adjustable strap complement any outfit. And for a durable nylon alternative, check out the Los Feliz Mini Backpack. At $195, it delivers hands-free practicality with leather trim accents.
