Today I wanted to share some of my favorite activewear brands that give me the same vibe as Vuori.
As someone who lives in yoga pants and athleisure wear, I’m always on the hunt for comfort and quality at an affordable price point.
While I love Vuori, it can be a little pricey, so I’ve discovered some great alternatives over the years.
Stick with me and I’ll fill you in on all the nitty gritty details:
Lululemon
Let’s start with the OG of athleisure, shall we? Lululemon was founded in 1998 in Vancouver and has become one of the most recognizable activewear brands around.
Their leggings are probably their most iconic product – I have 3 pairs of the Align legging and wear them constantly for yoga, errands and lounging around the house.
The Align fabric is super soft and stretchy without being see-through, and comes in fun colors and patterns.
The waistband is wide and comfortable without digging in. At $98 a pop they are expensive, but a good pair of Aligns will last forever. I also love Lulu’s Define Jacket for running and their Scuba Hoodie that makes winter workouts bearable.
Lululemon’s products are definitely comparable to Vuori in terms of quality and high performance technical fabrics.
The only downside is the high price tag, but you can often find sale items under $100 on their We Made Too Much page.
Outdoor Voices
This Austin-based brand exploded in popularity thanks to their laidback minimalist vibe and fun, colorful designs.
Outdoor Voices calls themselves “the recreational brand” and focuses more on being active for enjoyment rather than hardcore workouts. Their clothes are great for yoga, walking, hiking and other low key activities.
The CloudKnit material they use is amazingly soft and stretchy – like wearing your favorite sweatshirt! I have the CloudKnit crop top and leggings and love wearing them as a set. The Crop Top provides light support and the leggings don’t slide down.
The 7/8 Springs Leggings are also super popular – made of a lightweight compressive fabric with a cute tie-dye pattern. If you want activewear that transitions seamlessly into everyday casualwear, Outdoor Voices is a great pick.
Vuori has more technical/performance fabrics for intense activity, but both brands have that casual SoCal style and fun colors like sage green, lavender and cloud blue.
Girlfriend Collective
Girlfriend Collective is one of my top picks if you care about sustainability and eco-friendly activewear.
Their leggings, bras, unitards and more are made of recycled plastic from water bottles and fishing nets – how amazing is that!? I have 2 pairs of their Compressive High-Rise Legging which I love for everything from spin class to lifting sessions.
The fabric is thick and compressive without feeling restrictive. It also holds everything in and stays opaque when you bend and squat! I appreciate that the waistband is high and wide so it stays securely in place through lots of movement.
At $68-$88 they are very reasonably priced for the quality. Vuori and Girlfriend Collective share eco-conscious values and making products in ethical ways. While Vuori has more loungewear like joggers and hoodies, Girlfriend Collective focuses specifically on activewear apparel.
Alo Yoga
This LA based brand has exploded in popularity among the yoga/fitness influencer crowd. Their leggings with the iconic crisscross seam have been spotted all over Instagram.
Alo uses light, stretchy proprietary fabrics like their Airbrush material which feels super soft and allows lots of breathability. I’ve tried their High-Waist Airbrush Legging and love the skinny fit – it hugs your body without feeling restrictive or suffocating, even during hot yoga.
The thick waistband stays perfectly in place and doesn’t dig in. They also have Celcius fabric which incorporates ceramic minerals to retain body heat in cold weather.
While a bit “trendier” than Vuori, Alo is also high quality and focused on yoga inspired apparel. One cool thing is Alo has brick and mortar stores where you can try things on in person – worth checking out!
Beyond Yoga
Beyond Yoga is another yoga inspired brand with supers soft, stretchy fabrics that feel amazing on. Their clothes work great for low and high intensity workouts, as well as casual everyday wear.
The Spacedye Caught in the Midi High-Rise legging is one of my faves – the fabric is light and airy with ruching at the ankles, and stays put through lots of downward dog and warrior poses.
I also love the All Day Beyond Tee which comes in a bunch of different colors – it’s made of an ultra soft modal knit that feels like you’re wearing a supersoft t-shirt even during sweaty workouts.
Beyond Yoga definitely shares Vuori’s vibe of versatile activewear that also works for lounging and everyday wear. Like Vuori, their prices are on the higher end but you get what you pay for in terms of quality.
Athleta
Activewear giant Gap launched this brand in 1998 to compete with the likes of Lulu and Nike in the workout gear space.
I really appreciate that Athleta offers multiple inseam lengths on most of their leggings – as a short girl, it’s hard to find leggings that fit me just right but their petite sizes are perfect.
The Salutation Stash Pocket II is my go-to for yoga – they are lightweight and breathable, stay put through all kinds of moves, and have stash pockets for my phone or keys. Athleta’s Ultimate Ankle Pant are great for hiking and super versatile – I wear them out to lunch with a cute top.
They also have tall sizes for the long legged ladies. At $60-$120 Athleta is very fairly priced for the quality. Vuori is a bit more boutique while Athleta has that big brand feel, but both make great activewear.
Outdoor Research
This brand started out making gear for outdoor adventures like hiking and climbing, so their activewear is designed to perform in rugged conditions.
I love their Horizon Leggings for trail running – they have stretch panels behind the knee for full range of motion, and the fabric wicks sweat quickly on long slogs uphill. The Ferrosi quarter zip is perfect for cool weather hikes or walks – it blocks wind but lets moisture escape so you don’t overheat.
If you’re looking for tough, durable performance for activities like camping, climbing and mountaineering, Outdoor Research is a great alternative to Vuori. Vuori has more casual everyday lifestyle apparel, while OR focuses on technical apparel for active adventures outdoors.
Lorna Jane
Founded in Australia in 1989, Lorna Jane has gained a following worldwide for their wide selection of activewear.
Their designs range from basic black leggings to colorful printed sports bras and fun patterned tops. I’m obsessed with their Amy High Support Sports Bra – the straps can convert to racerback style and the longer line provides extra coverage.
It’s great for high impact workouts like running or HIIT training. Lorna Jane incorporates anti-stink technology into their fabrics so you don’t have to wash workout clothes constantly. At $60-$120 their products are very comparable to Vuori in terms of price point.
Vuori has more loungewear options while Lorna Jane focuses specifically on activewear for the gym, yoga, running errands and more.
Onzie
Known for their vivid prints and bold colors, Onzie is a yoga inspired brand not afraid to make a statement! Their clothes aren’t just stylish – they perform great during sweaty studio classes and beyond.
The High Rise Midi Leggings have a wide waistband that stays put, and the spandex blend fabric provides plenty of stretch and movement.
I get compliments every time I wear my colorful Capri Leggings to yoga. For tops, the Racerback Crop is a staple – great for layering under tanks or wearing on its own.
While Vuori tends to use more subtle, earthy colors, Onzie embraces bright colors and fun prints. But both share that yoga-influenced vibe and emphasis on comfort.
Prana
Founded in 1992, Prana creates versatile activewear perfect for climbing, yoga, hiking and travel. Their clothes move with you unrestricted during any activity.
I swear by their Halle Pant for long flights – they look cute enough to wear around town but stretchy enough for cross-legged airplane seats.
Their Bryce Pant has an adjustable waist, interior drawcord and roll-up legs so you can customize the fit – perfect for outdoor adventures! For hiking and backpacking, I love their tees made with Zion fabric which wicks moisture quickly.
Prana and Vuori both create activewear designed to perform during intense activity and world travel while still looking stylish. I’d say Prana has more options specifically for outdoor adventures while Vuori skews more lifestyle and fitness.
Sweaty Betty
Founded in London in 1998, Sweaty Betty has gained an almost cult-like following for their stylish spin on activewear.
Their leggings strike the perfect balance between fashionable and functional with cool details like mesh panels, moto-inspired designs and fun prints. The Power Legging has flattering ruching down the legs plus a mesh panel in the back for breathability.
For yoga and pilates, I love their Namaste Mesh Panel Leggings – the mesh keeps you cool in sweaty studios and the fabric feels silky smooth.
Their sports bras provide medium support for studio classes and light training. Vuori focuses more on hardcore athletic performance while Sweaty Betty is athleisure perfection!
Zella
Zella is Nordstrom’s in-house yoga and activewear brand, so it’s often easily found at discounted prices on sale or in the clearance section.
But don’t let the lower cost fool you – their leggings are high quality and durable, perfect for daily workouts. I’m obsessed with their Live In High Waist Leggings which come in tons of colors. They have a wide, contoured waistband that stays put even through high intensity training.
The fabric is thick enough to avoid sheerness but breathable. For $30-$60, Zella provides incredible value – I’d say comparable quality to Vuori at half the price or less. Definitely worth trying if you want budget-friendly activewear.
Under Armour
When it comes to performance apparel engineered for hard training and competition, you can’t beat Under Armour.
This brand outfits athletes across multiple sports – you’ll see their heatgear shirts and shorts on runners, soccer players, CrossFit junkies and more. The Rival Fleece Joggers are perfect for winter running and training outside – water resistant, insulated but breathable.
Their sports bras provide serious support for high impact activities like HIIT and bootcamp classes – the UA Infinity High Sports Bra stays in place even during burpees and mountain climbers.
While Vuori is focused more on all day wear, Under Armour excels at technical apparel for hardcore training. But both share a passion for innovative fabrics and performance technology.
Nike
And of course we can’t talk athleisure and activewear without mentioning the one and only Nike! Their recognizable Swoosh logo is everywhere, from yoga pants to performance running gear and everything in between.
Nike dominates the market with innovative technology like Dri-FIT to wick sweat and Flyknit for a sock-like fit. I love their Epic React Flyknit shoes – crazy comfortable even for 10+ mile runs. Their Relay Crops are perfect for race day with pockets to hold gels and phone.
Like Vuori, Nike has expanded into more lifestyle and loungewear but remains the go-to for serious training and competition apparel. They offer extended sizing with tall, regular and petite lengths too. Safe to say Nike makes apparel for any and all physical activities!
The Upside
The Upside is an Australian brand that’s recently exploded in popularity for their fashionable take on activewear.
Their clothes seamlessly transition from workout to weekend wear thanks to the soft, stretchy fabrics and flattering designs. I’m obsessed with their Classic Active Legging – it has a contoured high-rise waistband that stays in place and a slick seamless finish that’s totally squat-proof.
The fabric is super soft and breathable for hot yoga sessions but also thick enough to be opaque and hide cellulite/underwear lines (thank god!). The Upside also makes great cropped tops and long sleeve shirts perfect for layering.
Their workout sets like the Move IT Bra and Flare pant look straight off the runway. While a bit pricier, The Upside is very comparable to Vuori in terms of quality and performance. And they share that laidback sporty vibe that works for the gym or everyday life.
Teeki
Eco-conscious yogis listen up – Teeki creates the most amazing sustainable activewear made from recycled water bottles and plant-based materials!
Their leggings, bras, shorts and more are fashionable and functional but also responsibly made to reduce waste.
The Smoothing Scoop Bra provides light support from its bonded seamless construction plus wicks sweat and dries quickly during hot yoga sessions. For bottoms I love their Eco Hipster with cute ruching at the hips – it comes in short and regular lengths perfect for us petite gals.
Teeki’s prints and colors are so fun while also peacefully earth-friendly. Vuori and Teeki share that important commitment to sustainability and ethical production. While Vuori focuses more on athleisure, Teeki makes purely active workout gear.
Year Of Ours
Founded by a former ballerina, Year Of Ours creates activewear with a feminine sensibility and flattering silhouettes.
Their lace-trimmed leggings, wrap bras and sculpting bodysuits are equal parts stylish and functional for workouts. The Second Skin High Waist Legging has a seamless construction that slims and smooths – great for barre, pilates and yoga.
Their loungewear like the Bralette and Boy Short set is perfect for post-workout chilling. While Vuori focuses more on technical fabrics, Year of Ours is all about looking cute and put together at the gym.
But both brands allow you to transition seamlessly from your workout to daily life in comfort and style.
Alala
Alala creates trendy workout gear with an LA vibe designed to go from the gym to the streets effortlessly.
Their clothes combine fashion-forward details like mesh cutouts and moto styling with high performance fabrics that move with you. The Luna Leggings have ruched seams down the leg for a body-sculpting effect, plus stay in place during intense sweat sessions.
For tops, the Helix Bra has a cool strappy back plus removable pads for support. Alala’s range of athleisure includes bomber jackets, slit hem shirts, and harem pants perfect for West Coast weekends.
Compared to Vuori’s focus on function, Alala emphasizes fashion and streetwear-inspired workout gear. But both share that laidback SoCal spirit.
Varley
Founded by a former Nike designer, Varley creates sleek, minimalist athletic apparel inspired by ballet and dance.
Their leggings are designed for full range of motion with fabric that feels like a second skin. The Performance Legging has a mid-rise waist and lightweight compression fabric – perfect for barre, pilates and low impact training.
Their crop tops provide light support without restriction. Varley’s lux basics collection includes soft lounge dresses and hoodies great for pre/post workout chilling and errands.
While Vuori has more hardcore performance gear for intense training, Varley focuses on flexibility and comfort perfect for studio classes. Both share an emphasis on quality, flattering fit and all-day wearability.
